Thurs. Nov. 10: Last Football Game of the Season, call time 5:45 p.m. (Pit at 6:20 p.m.). Pre-game Senior recognition at 6:40 (senior parents please come at 6:30, meet at the end zone.) Halftime nonstandard “scattershow.”

Mon. Nov. 14: Tuxedo fitting. Boys wear tuxedos in concert performances. You may buy a tuxedo anywhere you like, but most of us find it cheap and easy to join in a group purchase. Larry Sullivan will measure students on Monday Nov. 14. The cost is $115 for pants, shirt, vest, jacket, and bow tie, including hemming. Delivery Dec. 1. Checks must be made payable to Larry Sullivan, NOT the Band Aides. Due to generous sizing and adjustable waistbands, a number of us have made these tuxedos last for all four years.

Thurs. Dec. 15: Band Winter Concert in the evening.  Parents mark your calendars and invite friends and family! If you have not helped out yet this year, plan to contribute a finger food snack for the after-concert reception. The kids appreciate that food!

Our season is winding down, but our schedule is never simple.

Thurs. Nov. 3:  Homecoming Game.  Early call time at 5:45 p.m. and the performance is at (6:40 p.m., before the game, not at half-time, our usual performance time.

Sat. Nov. 5:  Irvine Invitational Tournament. Students provide their own transportation; carpooling is encouraged (parking spaces are likely to be limited.  Practice at UHS, call time 11:00. Loading at 1:15, Senior speeches at 2:00; dismissed around 3:00.  Call time at Irvine HS: 5:15.  Performance 7:15, awards 9:15. Volunteers Matter

Dear Parents,

Your volunteer service always matters.  Some volunteer jobs involve lots of sitting around, then working for a few critical minutes. Some jobs are “just in case” your help is needed. Some jobs might be done by fewer people, IF everybody shows up.  When we have enough volunteers, we can all relax.  Cheryl, Karen and I assure you that your presence is always appreciated.  Thanks again!

Saturday October 29: Golden State Field Classic Tournament: Glen A. Wilson High School, 16455 Wedgeworth Drive, Hacienda Heights. Call time 1:30. Bring uniform, water, black shirt and shorts, shako, socks, gloves and instrument.  Meal break 3:45. Loading crew will get fed.  Be sure your student eats! Busses depart Uni at 5:15 or a few minutes after. UHSMTR performs at 8:15 pm, awards at 9:15 pm.

Directions: Hwy 5 N to Hwy 57 N (15 miles); West on Hwy 60 (5 miles), exit 18 Azusa Ave (left), Right at Colima, Right at Countrywood, left at Wedgeworth.(40-50 minutes)  And thanks to the 75% of you who donated transportation funds so we can attend this third show!

Dec. 15:  Concert Bands perform at the UHS Theater, reception with snacks after.  Invite your friends and relatives: these kids are worth hearing and it’s free!  Concert dress will be required; Mr. Heddon will provide specifics.  Boys that means tuxedos; we are looking into cheap purchase options for those.

Last Call for Register Fundraiser

OCR has accepted 803 subscriptions so far.  270 more have been collected.  We are getting close to our goal of 1300, but the sky’s the limit on this fundraiser. Deadline has been extended to this Friday. At $10 per form, please take the time and trouble to get a few more subscriptions each and we will get several thousand dollars!!  The form is attached. Parents, how about bringing them into work? Remember to be valid: the subscriber must live in Orange County or East Long Beach, must pay a token amount, must include phone or email and be legible, and now we are told:  we must NOT get a bunch of forms in one person’s handwriting (should be written by the subscriber if possible). Please note that this subscription gives NO sales pitches or obligation to continue.

The field show is half written, the sections are practicing diligently, the band room is being remodeled, and the color guard has doubled. We are ready for a great season! You will usually receive updates weekly during the marching season (by email then reformulated for this website).

If you need to check out an instrument, the only time to do so is this Tuesday Aug. 9 12-2pm. Mr. Heddon will not be available any other time before Band Camp.

Important Camp Dates:

Monday, August 22: Band Camp starts. You will shortly receive an email about your registration status. If you have not submitted all forms and payment, PLEASE BRING THEM AT 7:40 AM MONDAY. Be ready to play before 8am each day; finish at 5. (90 minute lunch break most days). Remember to prepare for sun and heat: hat, sunscreen, no jeans, at least 1 gallon water, athletic shoes.

Monday, August 29: Students should receive their uniforms. Please do any needed length alterations before Trader Joes performance Sept. 1.

Thursday, September 1: Mandatory Parent Meeting 6:00 pm.

Friday, September 2: Beach Bonfire at Corona del Mar, 4pm to 10pm. All parents welcome, especially 5-7 pm.

Band Picture Day is Tuesday September 13. You can order individual photos.

Call for parent volunteers:

1. Truck drivers and Trailer drivers! Each home game and competition we need a parent to drive the truck, and one to drive the trailer. Let me know if you might be willing.

2. A little carpentry work: We are designing carts and shelves for transporting equipment. If you like to build with plywood and have the tools, please let me know!

3. Web maintenance: We can use some help updating and upgrading our website. If you have web skills you are willing to share, let me know.
